If you have ever been to view a house that has a very particular style has it put you off. Some folks will see this as a lot of work and be put off. Now a can of paint is a little easier to wield than changing a patio in a garden or changing the material in a wall. I’ve been working with Signature Build on a project where the house is being completely transformed. Its a Californian Deco style exterior and the interior is being tastefully decorated in lovely brass fittings and warm tone.
The clients have a real passion for Morocco inspired gardens. At the extreme end of the scale this makes me think of blue walls, paradise gardens, tiled patios. The extreme style would clash with the house and the interior. The clients are also conscious of the potential resale value of the property so there is a careful balance to be had.
The design uses limestone warm materials that to me echo warmer climates. I have included a quadrant area of lawns which nods to the style. The main Moroccan influences will be brought in by finishes that can be added/ taken away. Such as lanterns, outdoor rugs and furniture.
In terms of planting I’ve gone for lush green planting which envoques a feel of tropical gardening whilst still comfortably living in the Surrey climate. I feel the lines and the planting compliment the Deco style of the house and still has a contemporary warm feel. This style of gardening has longevity (in my humble opinion) and can be refreshed with planting, pots and furniture to whoever lives there. I’m hoping the investment in the garden will be appreciated as long as the house.
