New Home Contemporary Garden Transformation

When Julie and Bob moved into their new build home a large part of the draw was the size of the garden. Having left an established garden, they knew that the garden was an important space for them. Like most new homes the garden was a blank canvas, mainly lawn with a token small patio. Through getting to know them and the space I designed them a garden to complement their home and give them lots of entertaining space.

Clients normally fall into one of two camps; those who like circles and those who like straight lines. Fortunately they love circles as I really enjoy designing with curves. Using Sketchup I modelled the house and garden and let my imagination go wild. Adding height and different areas gave the garden interest and flow. Focal points were set up to draw the eye across the garden and from inside the house.

Two porcelain patios were created with Corten edging. There are two Scottish pebble circles. The paths that intersect the circle are constructed from self binding gravel. The planting areas were mulched with peat free compost to give the plants a head start. Considering that we have been through a severe period of drought the plants are looking amazing. I sourced the plants for Julie and Bob, set them out and helped them plant them.

Julie and Bob are thrilled with their new garden and have been entertaining friends and family in the new spaces. They are pleased with how established it already looks. They would not have created this garden without the input of a design so they are over the moon. They have added in lighting and are planning to put in irrigation. Now we are into Autumn we are adding spring interest in bulbs. I can’t wait to see how this looks in a couple of years!
