I know we are in summer and I’m harping on about thinking about Spring already… One of the enigmas of gardening is planning. You need to be thinking one to two seasons ahead, to keep colour and excitement in your planting throughout the year. So yes I would encourage you to think about bulb planting now.
I love bulbs. The fact that everything these flowers need is stored in a neat package, in status, waiting for their time to pop up their heads. They are incredibly good value and low maintenance. In the depth of winter there is nothing more uplifting than the pop of colour from a crocus or snowdrop.
Bulb suppliers open their pre-ordering early so if you are looking for particular varieties then its a great idea to get in early. Nurseries have struggled with supplies this year due to popularity and issues with import regulations.
The bulbs will come with instructions on how to plant and when. Its important to follow this to get successful blooms.
If all this seems too much you can always employ someone like me to take the hard work out of it. I can design, source and plant your bulbs for you!
